Ukrainian Soccer team, Shakhtar Donetsk to raise charity funds via NFT sales.

Shakhtar Donetsk, a top soccer team in Ukraine, stated that it has plans to auction an NFT collection. The collection contains several signed jerseys and the aim of the sale is to raise funds for humanitarian activities. Which is targeted at Ukrainian citizens affected by the ongoing war with Russia.

Binance Announces the Launch of the collection

Binance NFT, announced the launch Friday the launch of the soccer club’s NFT collection. Additionally, next week, Shakhtar will auction nine signed jerseys from its ‘Football for Peace’ initiative.

The main purpose of the initiative is to provide assistance for children affected by the military hostilities in their country. This initiative will also include organizing friendly matches and donating the proceeds from the tickets. Binance stated in a blog post that the auction will begin on May 7 and last for a week.

Furthermore the blog post also pointed that. “The highest bidders will each receive a limited edition FC Shakhtar Donetsk jersey with the ‘Football for Peace’ logo on it”. Shakhtar players and coaches, which includes Ukrainian stars Taras Stepanenko, Mikhail Mudryk, and Andriy Pyatov will sign the jerseys.

Shakhtar Donetsk to also sell Mystery Boxes

Furthermore, Shakhtar Donestk will put 10,000 NFT Mystery Boxes up for sale. And the club will sell these NFTs at 10 BUSD on the Binance NFT Marketplace from Saturday. Binance plans to donate the Proceeds from the auction and the Mystery Boxes sales to the Shakhtar Social Fund and the Binance Charity Relief Fund. And also spend the money to help Ukrainians in need of humanitarian assistance.

Speaking on the effort, Sergei Palkin, CEO of FC Shakhtar Donetsk said:

“We are dedicated to helping the Ukrainian community rise back stronger from this crisis. Blockchain is ideal for this given the transparency and accountability that it provides,”

Helen Hai, head of Binance NFT also stated tha

“Throughout the ongoing crisis in Ukraine, digital assets, including NFTs, have played an important role in providing fast, efficient, and simple help to those in need,”

Since Russia launched its military invasion in late February, Ukraine has relied on crypto donations. The country has also raised millions of dollars in crypto to fund its defense and solve humanitarian problems. And most of these donations were from the crypto community and other nations who have provided support for the country.

Shakhtar was originally based in the Eastern Ukrainian city of Donetsk. Which is currently controlled by the pro-Russian separatist forces. But the conflict in the Donbas region forced them to move the club’s headquarters to Kyiv. Since 2014, Shakhtar has played its home matches in Lviv, Kharkiv, and the Ukrainian capital.
