Digital Extremes, the creators of Warframe, has announced a new MMORPG called Soulframe.
About the Game
The free-to-play fantasy MMO will have “heavy themes of nature, restoration, and exploration,” said TennoCon 2022.
“Soulframe is a brand-new game still in the early stages of development. Nevertheless, it will offer its own unique and immersive experience, led by the creative and imaginative minds behind Warframe,” said the developer.
In a new interview with The Washington Post, the game, which is yet to have a release date, was discussed in more depth.
“Where Warframe is all about shooting, this one is all about close combat,” said Steve Sinclair, director of Warframe. “Where Warframe is super fast and crazy high-speed, this one will be a lot slower and heavier. But it’s still a lot like the kind of stories we’re used to reading.“
Creative director Geoff Crookes said, “The idea is that the world is a little angry about what we do to it, and the reasons for that change throughout the day.“
“There will be order in the cave networks, crevasses, and other places under the world,” he said.
How does SoulFrame Compare to Warframe?
Combat plans to be much slower in Soul-Frame than Warframe, with a focus on close-range attacks. In the interview, though, the team makes it clear that this isn’t a response to Elden Ring.
Sinclair told Washington Post, “I don’t think it was the source of our first ideas or what we wanted to do.“
“It’s funny that other games borrowed from Warframe what might have been influenced by it in a way. But Elden Ring has been talked about, maybe because of how they use the camera or how well they pace their battles. And you know what? Screw those guys because Elden Ring was awesome.“
Digital Extremes have not set a release date, but they plan to be transparent about the development process. Players can sign up for updates on the Soulframe website.
