NFTs go against the guidelines and spirit of Minecraft

Mojang Studios, the creators of the NFT game, and Minecraft banned the inclusion of NFTs in the game. The major reason for this decision is because the Mojang team believes the Mojang team believes that, “NFTs can create models of scarcity and exclusion that go against our Guidelines and the spirit of Minecraft.”

Mojang Studios disclosed on Wednesday that it would not add NFTs, or blockchain technology to its game-making infrastructure.

Mojang wrote this to explain the decision:

“NFTs can be copied, moved, or even deleted, just like any other digital file. Price speculation has also been linked to both NFTs and the blockchain. These uses of NFTs and other blockchain technologies create digital ownership based on scarcity and exclusion. Which goes against Minecraft’s values of creative inclusion and playing together.”

According to Mojang, “To make sure that Minecraft players have a safe and inclusive experience, blockchain technologies are not allowed to be integrated into our client and server applications. Also, Minecraft in-game content like worlds, skins, persona items, or other mods cannot be used by blockchain technology to create a scarce digital asset.”

Speculation and investment mentality makes players prioritize money over experience

The company also criticized the “speculative pricing” and “investment mentality” of NFTs. According to the company, they take away from the game experience. Furthermore, they encourage money-making at the expense of being able to play the game over time. It also noted some third-party NFT integrations and NFT wash trading, or fraudulent price manipulation used to swindle investors.

Under the new rules, players can’t add blockchain technologies from third parties to client or server applications in Minecraft. Users cannot also make NFTs for anything in the game, like worlds, skins, persona items, or other mods.

Although the changes won’t affect most Minecraft players. Rather, a small group of players who monetize in-game NFTs is likely to be greatly affected. Because of this, third-party NFT collections for sale that digitize Minecraft in-game assets could violate these terms and could face legal consequences.

About Mojang Studios

Mojang Studios is a video game-making company based in Stockholm Sweden. Markus Persson, an independent video game designer, started the company Mojang Specifications in 2009 so that his sandbox and survival game, Minecraft could be made and sold.
