NVIDIA OFFICIALLY LAUNCHES INTO THE METAVERSE

Nvidia a top-tier technology company known for the design and manufacture of graphics processing units (GPUs) announced a wide variety of Metaverse projects in the works.

The company during the announcement at this year’s SIGGRAPH, an annual conference for computer graphics, stated they would focus on a range of new metaverse initiatives.

The move was a significant one for Nvidia as Meta already uses 16,000 new Nvidia GPUs to power its Metaverse economy.

Nvidia’s Neural Graphics

The neural graphics SDKs is one of the most exciting new Metaverse introduction from the company.

The field of neural graphics is brand new and is the intertwining of artificial intelligence and computer graphics.  Nvidia has been working on AI-powered “neural graphics.”

Once fully deployed, neural graphics will be used to render and simulate a realistic 3D world inside a computer. Developers can access this functionality through different SDKs, including the newly-released NeuralVDB.

Avatar Cloud Engine

ACE stands for Avatar Cloud Engine.

Omniverse ACE is an interesting tool also introduced at the conference. It’s a set of cloud-based services and AI models that will be used to create realistic 3D avatars.

This development is a very important one because it helps create realistic avatars that users can identify with. ACE combines several sophisticated AI technologies that allow developers to create digital assistants that can pass the Turing test.

The technology was built on top of the Unified Compute Framework. The framework is still not accessible to the general public; however, Nvidia plans to release it later this year.

Nvidia Releases a New version of Omniverse

Nvidia also released a new version of Omniverse.  This platform provides talented developers with a full toolkit for building Metaverse-enabled apps from the ground up. It even comes with an engine that enables developers to run fully-rendered virtual worlds.

Initially, there probably won’t be mass adoption of the platform. But, as the Metaverse gains more traction, we expect to see a rise in the number of people using it.

The Importance of This Announcement

There are plenty of news stories that come out of SIGGRAPH each year but this announcement from Nvidia seems like one of the most important. This is simply because it signals a major shift in how the company approaches Metaverse development.

In a statement by Rev Lebaredian, the Omniverse, and Simulation technology vice-president, this SIGGRAPH conference said that 2022 could be the biggest year for computer graphics since 1993 when the seminal Jurassic Park came out and could go down in history.

The thing about all of these announcements is that they show just how serious Nvidia is taking the Metaverse. This isn’t some small side project; it’s a full-fledged initiative that the company invests a lot of time and resources into.

Nvidia Driving Metaverse Adoption

With Nvidia’s announcement at SIGGRAPH, it’s only a matter of time before other big tech companies start to get committed to Metaverse.

Metaverse is starting to get the attention it deserves and it’s here to stay.
